Boo's Afterlife Hot Sauce Packaging

Boo’s Afterlife Hot Sauce was born from a bold vision: to create a label that was just as funky, fearless, and full of personality as the people behind the sauce. This brand-new product wasn’t just about heat—it was about resilience, creativity, and tasting the spicy side of life. Grown from backyard peppers and inspired by heavy metal, each flavor told its own story, and the label needed to reflect that intensity. Central to the design is Boo, a cute-but-edgy ghost whose look shifts to match each flavor—like Life Is Peachy, a nod to Korn, featuring Boo in an Adidas sheet with dreadlocks à la Jonathan Davis. The aesthetic blends blackletter typography, hand-drawn illustrations, and a strong black-metal vibe aimed at heat-seekers and those unafraid to confront their ghosts head-on.

The project was deeply personal. While the client was in the hospital, I worked closely with their friends and family—an unconventional process that turned the design into a community-driven tribute. From sketching Boo’s base form to customizing him for each flavor, I brought the client’s dream to life through my signature illustration style, ensuring Boo wasn’t just another ghost—he was a character with soul. It was my first time navigating FDA labeling requirements, but the challenge only added to the sense of growth and meaning behind the work. The final result was met with joy and pride, helping launch Boo’s Afterlife Hot Sauce into the local market and giving the brand a distinct, heartfelt identity. My role in designing the packaging became more than a job—it was a creative act of love and celebration.
